What does the US Presidency mean to me?
Is the President the most powerful person in the United States? Or is he a figurehead, and the real power lies in Congress? In the courts? With the states?
The 21st Century has felt like a tumultuous and seminal period for the American Presidency. The impeachment proceedings in 2018 underscored my general ignorance about the highest office in the land. That’s when this project was born — I want to understand this office through the men who have held it, so I drew up a reading list for myself to read at least one biography of every president from Washington to today. And if there’s one thing I love, it’s checking things off a list. And if there’s another thing I love, it’s committing hard to a bit.
So, this blog is where you can follow along with me, an English Major & former Science Nerd, as I read my way through my least favorite subject in high school — American History.
If you want to read along with me (and support the blog AND independent bookstores), you can buy the reading list here: https://bookshop.org/shop/PresidentialBookBinge. Note — this is an affiliate link so I receive a portion of sales.
